Seasoned ground pork, fragrant Thai basil, green beans, and a savory, umami-packed sauce for a satisfying Thai meal you'll smell from the other side of camp. Choose your own spice level with the included chili packet!

Why We Made It

James first fell in love with Thai food on his first trip to Thailand, where he ate green curry with chicken no less than eight times in seven days. Later, in college, he discovered a whole new world of Thai dishes at his local restaurant, Nud Pob. One favorite was Pad Kra Pao, which quickly became a dish he eagerly shared with Alex. With its garlicky sauce, chili kick, and fragrant Thai basil, it was a natural choice to bring to the trail.

Just add hot water, wait 12 minutes, give it a stir halfway through, and dig in.

  • Savory ground pork in every spoonful

FAQ

Is there real rice in it, or does it turn to glue? Real medium-grain white rice, freeze-dried so it rehydrates back to distinct grains in about 12 minutes with boiling water, not the gummy paste you get from cheap instant rice.

Is it real meat? Yes, real pork, not a textured soy substitute. It's the protein anchor of the bowl alongside the rice.

How spicy is it? Customize it to your liking! The meal comes with a separate red pepper packet, so you can add as much or as little heat as you want. Start with a little and add more to dial in your perfect level of spice.

Does it actually taste authentic? That’s the goal. We build the flavor with Thai staples like fish sauce, oyster sauce, garlic, and Thai basil for the savory, aromatic flavor you’d expect from a proper Pad Kra Pao.

Does it have real vegetables? Yes: green beans and Thai basil, not a token sprinkle of dried flakes. They add texture, freshness, and aromatic flavor to make the meal feel complete.

How do I prepare it? Tear open the pouch, add boiling water, stir, reseal the zip, and wait about 12 minutes. The flat-bottom pouch stands on its own and doubles as the bowl, so there's nothing to clean up.

How much does it weigh, and how many calories? Single-serve at roughly 140 g (4.94 oz) of food, with total packaged weight around 166 g (5.86 oz) including pouch and oxygen absorber. At about 630 kcal it's a strong calorie-to-weight ratio for the pack.

How much protein? Around 35 g per pouch, calorie-dense and built to refuel a long day on your feet, not just snack.

Are there allergens / is it gluten-free? It contains fish (anchovy), shellfish (oyster), soy, and wheat. If you have a food allergy, be sure to check the full ingredient list and allergen statement before enjoying.

How long does it last? It's sealed in a Mylar pouch with an oxygen absorber for long-term storage, so it works for trips planned months out and for emergency kits. Keep it cool and dry, and don't open the pouch until you're ready to eat.
