About Us

The founders at Seattle's Discovery Park, with Mount Rainier behind.
We’re two brothers who spent our childhoods bouncing between Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Seoul, going to international schools and growing up in a multicultural mix of communities and cuisines. The meals we ate weren’t just delicious. They were a connection to home, family, and memories. So when we hit the trail or head into the mountains, those authentic flavors are the ones we crave. Now, we’re sharing them with everyone who loves good food and wants something new and exciting for their outdoor adventures.

The name Iron Goat comes from a trail in the Cascades that follows a railroad track primarily built by Asian immigrants in the 1890s. It felt like the perfect symbol for our story as Asians in America: resilient, adventurous, and proud of where we come from. We’re also proud to be the first freeze-dried meal company based in Washington, and the first to focus entirely on authentic Asian recipes.

Starting Iron Goat Provisions is also really personal to us as we wanted to honor our mom. She gave Alex his love for the outdoors and passed on her passion for cooking to James. She inspired us to explore the world and its cultures, often through the meals we shared together. We lost her to suicide, and making these meals helps us stay connected to her. That’s why a portion of every sale goes toward mental health awareness and suicide prevention, so others can get the support they need too.

A portion of each sale will be donated to the AFSP.
Thanks for being here. We hope our meals bring you the same kind of comfort they bring us.
